Deserving Better

Cogito Ergo Non Serviam

Vindman Retires from Army

After 21 years wearing the uniform of his adopted nation, Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman has decided to retire from the US Army. For the last several months, his career has been that of a dead man walking. Having testified against the president in the impeachment proceedings, his promotion to full-bird colonel has been up in the air, and he lost his job at the National Security Council. His retirement is well-deserved, and it is a shame that the president's vindictiveness has cost the army a patriot's service.

His lawyer David Pressman issued a statement that explained, "The President of the United States attempted to force LTC Vindman to choose: Between adhering to the law or pleasing a President. Between honoring his oath or protecting his career. Between protecting his promotion or the promotion of his fellow soldiers. These are choices that no one in the United States should confront, especially one who has dedicated his life to serving it," he added, noting that Vindman "did what the law compelled him to do; and for that he was bullied by the President and his proxies."

Ruining people who cross him is standard for Mr. Trump. He has been a jackass of the first order since his early days in New York Real Estate. If he can hurt someone gratuitously, he will. If he can take revenge on someone, he feels justified in doing so.

CNN reported that Lt. Colonel Vindman was to go to the National War College but opted for retirement "after speaking with senior Army officials who made clear that there were forces working against his advancement within the military.

"Specifically, Vindman was told by senior Army officials that he would no longer be deployable in his area of expertise, which includes Ukraine, the source familiar with the situation told CNN.

"He was also told by senior officers he would need a 'rehabilitative assignment' even if he had opted to attend the National War College, an option he had been considering before Wednesday's announcement, the source added.

"In one case, a senior officer quipped about sending him to 'man a radar station in Alaska,' the source said."

In his testimony, Colonel Vindman stated, "I also recognize that my simple act of appearing here today, just like the courage of my colleagues who have also truthfully testified before this Committee, would not be tolerated in many places around the world. In Russia, my act of expressing my concerns to the chain of command in an official and private channel would have severe personal and professional repercussions and offering public testimony involving the President would surely cost me my life. I am grateful for my father’s brave act of hope 40 years ago and for the privilege of being an American citizen and public servant, where I can live free of fear for mine and my family's safety.

"Dad, my sitting here today, in the US Capitol talking to our elected officials is proof that you made the right decision forty years ago to leave the Soviet Union and come here to United States of America in search of a better life for our family. Do not worry, I will be fine for telling the truth."
This journal is ashamed of the way this patriot has been treated by a man who is unfit to serve and president and by the cowards who enable him. Colonel Vindman deserved better than this.
