Cogito Ergo Non Serviam
Vote for Kamala Harris
The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post have chosen not to endorse a presidential candidate this year. They have claimed they do so out of a sense of impartiality, and one is prepared to take them at their words, despite the clear evidence that they are back-peddling on previous anti-Trump statements in the event Mr. Trump wins the election. They are cowards. This journal begs the electorate to back Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for president and vice-president. Donald J. Trump is incompetent, unAmerican and clearly suffering mental decay. Ms. Harris is competent, quite American and sharper than most. It is not really a contest if one does not have business before the federal government.
The Trump campaign has a big problem compared to its race in 2016. It has a record in office to defend, and in 2020, they could not do it. The national debt boomed, the number of jobs shrank, a million Americans died from a pandemic that Mr. Trump mismanaged, he betrayed American allies like the Kurds, and he did not even build his wall. It was a singular failure. He does not deserve another term just based on that.
Also, though, he decided to overthrow the government and failed to do so. In most countries, he would have paid with his life, but America is a more forgiving place. He has managed to stay out of prison so far, but he did find himself convicted in New York for crimes that have nothing to do with the coup. Next month, he faces sentencing on 34 felony counts.
As for Ms. Harris, there is little about which to complain. Gaza is a running sore, but she is not in control of the policy on this matter. She bears little responsibility but is taking much of the blame. As vice president, she is not responsible for very much at all. Justly or not, she is saddled with the Biden record. That is not entirely a bad thing for her because it allows her to claim credit where she is not entirely deserving either.
The infrastructure spending has created jobs while fixing the dreadful roads and bridges of America. The vaccine distribution under the Biden administration has move the pandemic off the front pages. The inflation that followed is the direct result of slashing taxes and then closing down the global economy to fight Covid. US inflation was managed better than any other developed country in the world. America is back in with its allies after Mr. Trump so stupidly undermined the relationships.
With Donald Trump, the future of America is that of a Latin American dictatorship led by Daffy Duck. He is an unserious person with little more motivating him than his reptilian urges emanating from the R-complex in his brain. He has said he will skip FBI background checks, as he did with son-in-law Jared Kushner, and that is certain to undermine national security. He will politicize the civil service which will take the country back to the days of the spoils system that enhanced governmental corruption in the 19th century. People who know what they are doing will take second place to people who are loyal to the boss. America will be poorer, dumber, sicker and weaker under him. He is the ideal candidate for Presidents Putin and Xi.
Ms. Harris will likely continue the general direction the Biden administration has followed. The military is doing its job. The economy is growing. The idea of democracy will continue for a while longer. All the same, MAGA has introduced a nasty sickness into the American body politic that may prove fatal in years to come.
