RFK, Jr. Fires CDC Vaccine Advisory Committee
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He has just undermined all the health and services for humans in the nation. He fired every single member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices despite a promise in this confirmation hearings to leave this kind of thing alone. He claims that this move will restore public trust in vaccinations. It will do just the opposite, but he likes that because he is opposed to national vaccination against lethal diseases. He has said no one should take medical advice from him, and this is why.
The HHS website quoted him “A clean sweep is necessary to reestablish public confidence in vaccine science,” Kennedy concluded. “ACIP's new members will prioritize public health and evidence-based medicine. The Committee will no longer function as a rubber stamp for industry profit-taking agendas. The entire world once looked to American health regulators for guidance, inspiration, scientific impartiality, and unimpeachable integrity. Public trust has eroded. Only through radical transparency and gold standard science, will we earn it back.”
The erosion in public trust is a manufactured erosion on the political right. Vaccines work. That is why no one dies of small pox anymore. That is why measels is reviving among the unvaccinated. The resistance to masks and shots during the covid pandemic was merely stupidity on TV. Thanks to that Trumpist idiocy, America had the WORST outcome during covid among the developed nations of the world.
The people he will now appoint to the ACIP will be Trump loyalists and other fellow travelers who believe that science that they do not understand is just a way for big corporations to take their money and for big government to take their freedom. Expertise will be exchanged for ideological purity. That means incompetence will no longer be disqualifying, just like in national security.
The President of the American Medical Association Dr. Bruce Scott issued a statement that read:
For generations, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has been a trusted national source of science-and data-driven advice and guidance on the use of vaccines to prevent and control disease. Physicians, parents, community leaders and public health officials rely on them for clinical guidance, public health information, and knowledge. Today's action to remove the 17 sitting members of ACIP undermines that trust and upends a transparent process that has saved countless lives. With an ongoing measles outbreak and routine child vaccination rates declining, this move will further fuel the spread of vaccine-preventable illnesses.
The Journal of the American Medical Association did a study into state restrictions and covid deaths.
Findings This cross-sectional analysis including all 50 US states plus the District of Columbia found that if all states had imposed COVID-19 restrictions similar to those used in the 10 most (least) restrictive states, excess deaths would have been an estimated 10% to 21% lower (13%-17% higher) than the 1.18 million that actually occurred during the 2-year period analyzed. Behavior changes were associated with 49% to 79% of this overall difference.
This will now be the standard for the entire nation for all diseases; America will be less prepared and suffer more. Vaccines have changed human life for the better. They will now have to be developed elsewhere because, even if the shot is effective, few will trust a the ACIP to act in a way that does anything to benefit the American people and their health.
This is the legacy of MAGA, an America that is sicker, poorer, dumber, angrier and uglier. And over 70 million voted for it. They will now get what they asked for, as will everyone else.
