Circular Firing Squad

Epstein Scandal Splits MAGA

Being in opposition is the most fun a politician can have without actually having to do anything. One can make outrageous claims, and the promises do not have to be funded. But then one gets into office, and the realities of governing take all of that away. This has happened to the Trumpists and their fascination with the human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who alleged committed suicide while in federal custody. MAGA has demanded the client list and the publication of the files certain they show the Democrats have run a child-trafficking ring for years. Yet, AG Pam Bondi issued a memo last week claiming there was no client list. Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino has threatened to resign because he just knows she is covering it all up. The circular firing squad is loaded and taking aim.

Jeffrey Epstein was a terrible person. He taught at the prestigious Dalton School in New York despite not having a college degree; clearly, he talked his way into that position. He was let go and joined Bearn Stearns investment house. He learned enough there to start his own firm, and he copped a plea on underage prostitution charges. In Florida, he served 13 months on a work release program that basically said he had to sleep in the jail but could leave in the morning. It was clearly a sweatheart deal he was not entitled to have.

In 2019 (when Mr. Trump was president), he was arrested on similar federal charges and was found hanged in his cell in August of that year. He had bought a private island in the Caribbean, and his private jet flew lots of rich and powerful people around. His girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell (daughter of British publishing magnate Robert Maxwell) is still in jail for her part in his crimes.

Pam Bondi back in February said that she would release the Epstein files and that she had the client list sitting on her desk. Last week, a two-page memo came out saying that there was nothing to see. It came out on a Sunday night. It was a typical hamfisted attempt to bury the news. The internet never sleeps, though, and word got out.

Deputy FBI Director Ban Bongino, whose qualification for the job is that he has a pro-Trump podcast, is alleged to be uncontrollable with rage over this memo. He did not come to work on Friday, and today, it is still unclear what he has planned.

Their clash has got MAGA bigshots turning on each other. Tucker Carlson says there is nothing to see here. Forbes reported "Carlson told NBC he believes the Justice Department doesn't have 'much relevant information about Jeffrey Epstein's sex crimes' and should not have led the public to believe it does."

Laura Loomer (who in the opinion of this journal is bat-shit crazy) has demanded that the AG resign and wants a special counsel to investigate the DoJ and its handling of the Epstein files. She told Politico "I don't think that she [Ms. Bondi] has been transparent or done a good job handling this issue."

Forbes also noted, "Elon Musk on Saturday urged the Justice Department to 'just release the files as promised' in response to Trump's Truth Social post on Saturday. Musk agreed with a user who called it 'the worst post ever made' and criticized Trump for mentioning Epstein 'half a dozen times while telling everyone to stop talking about Epstein'."

In his post, Mr. Trump demanded MAGA world fall in line with Ms. Bondi. Where this leaves Mr. Bongino is unclear, but Mr. Trump has said the Deputy Director is doing a great job. What the president clearly fears is losing one of the two who will then lead the charge to get the papers released in full.

This is what comes of third-rate people making things up and then having to face reality. The Epstein files were supposed to bring down the Biden Crime Family. What it appears to be doing to splitting MAGA. What a shame it did not split over something like transferring wealth to the rich by slashing social programs.
