Netanyahu Government Murders 5 Gazan Journalists

The Netanyahu government murdered five journalists in Gaza yesterday. The terms are used advisedly. These were deliberatekillings in support of a government policy. That makes it murder in common English. The Israeli people are not responsible directly for this, nor are any Jews outside Israel, This falls at the feet of Benjamin Netanyahu and his 50 seats out of 120 in the Knesset. He has lost two far right religious parties, so he is effectively leading a minority government. Desperate to stay in power to avoid jail for financial crimes, he is preventing reporters from entering Gaza, and those who are there are targeted by the Israeli Defense Force. The PM wants to keep the stories in Gaza out of the media.

Since the invasion of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli authorities have done all they can to prevent outside journalists from entering Gaza. The only people of late who have been able to file stories are Gazans who have ties to major foreign news agencies like Reuters and the Associated Press. Five of these were killed yesterday.

The attack occurred at the hospital in Khan Younis, which is the only hospital operating in the region. The Israeli forces hit it with a rocket. All the journalists ran to the site of the attack to do their jobs. There was a staircase that many occupied because they could get a signal for the internet there. That is where the second missile hit, when the reporters were trying to file their stories. Reuters even had a live feed that went dark when the second rocket attack happened.

Reuters lost one of their own, cameraman Hussam al-Masri, The wireservice also stated, "The journalists killed included Mariam Abu Dagga, who freelanced for the Associated Press and other outlets, Mohammed Salama, who worked for Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera, Moaz Abu Taha, a freelance journalist who worked with several news organisations including occasionally contributing to Reuters, and Ahmed Abu Aziz.

"Photographer Hatem Khaled, also a Reuters contractor, was wounded."

The Netanyahu government stated that this was a "tragic mishap" and stated that his government values the work of journalsts and medical staff. One cannot accept either as true. The simple fact is that one missile might be a mishap. The second missile could not have been. Terror groups over the years have planted one device to create a situation in which first responders have to act, and once the search and rescue is underway, a second device kills them. It is clear this is the approach the IDF took. A double mishap fails the smell test.

Still, The IDF "regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals and does not target journalists as such. The IDF acts to mitigate harm to uninvolved individuals as much as possible while maintaining the safety of IDF troops," it said.

Of course, President Trump was right on top of things as he usually is. "When did this happen?" he asked a reporter in the White House. "I didn't know that. Well, I'm not happy about it. I don't want to see it. At the same time, we have to end that whole nightmare." That hardly has Nobel peace Prize written all over it. It cannot even be filed under "moments of competence."

The end game is Gaza is clear. The Netanyahu government wants the Gazans gone. It plans on annexing the Gaza Strip and needs clear land to settle. Ideally, they will be made so miserable that they will become refugees elsewhere, become the problem for another nation to solve. Or it may just kill them all. Death or life in a refugee camp till the end of time is hardly a choice at all.

This may seem like a “solution” to Israeli security concerns, but the fact is that there are a few million Palestinians who will die hating Israel and Israelis and who will do anything they can to figth back. The Netanyahu government has insured that there will be no peace for decades.
