Cogito Ergo Non Serviam

RFK Jr. Fires CDC Director, Deputies Resign

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. He believes a great many stupid and harmful things about vaccines and disease that are simply untrue. He maintains that vaccines cause autism. He is wrong. The woman just appointed to head the CDC knew he is wrong and said so. She is now looking for work after the secretary fired her. This undermines national security (biowarfare) and makes public health problematic. It bothered some of the others at the CDC so much that they resigned. It was a Wednesday Afternoon Massacre.

Director Susan Monarez only got the job a month ago. Right after the Inauguration, she was named acting director, and the president nominated her for the position on a permanent basis after the first candidate Congressman Dave Weldon could not get the votes for senate confirmation because of his belief that vaccines cause autism. Because she was appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate, her lawyer maintains only the president can sack her, not Mr. Kennedy. She is out, and it is just a matter of time before she accepts that reality.

"When CDC Director Susan Monarez refused to rubber-stamp unscientific, reckless directives and fire dedicated health experts she chose protecting the public over serving a political agenda. For that, she has been targeted," the statement from prominent Washington, D.C., lawyers Abbe Lowell and Mark Zaid reads.

Her confirmation by the senate happened because she did not share the view of Mr. Weldon on vaccines and autism. Unfortunately, Mr. Kennedy does share that view. So, when she declined to rubber-stamp the nonsense he wanted to come out of the Advisory Committee on Vaccine Policy, he decided she needed to go.

After her deputies quit, the decapitation of the CDC was complete. This is extremely dangerous both from a public health perspective and from a political one. If there were to be an outbreak of a disease similar to Covid-19, there would be no commanding general in the war to defeat it.

"I think this is quite a negative and potentially catastrophic step for the country," said Adm. Brett Giroir, a physician who helped lead the response to the coronavirus pandemic during Mr. Trump's first term and advised Mr. Kennedy during the latest transition.

I don't know who's in charge, honestly, and that's frightening because the No. 1 thing you need is somebody in charge,” he added. According to the Washington Post.

If the potential of thousands upon thousands of deaths were not bad enough, the politicization of health policy guarantees that America will fail to get healthy again. If one wants to see where this leads, one need only study the story of Trofim Lysenko, whose crackpot views on crops and genetics starved millions under Stalin. When pseudoscience becomes government policy, the citizenry suffers.

Worst of all, the CDC has lost its halo. This idiocy of Mr. Kennedy has made everything that will come out of the CDC in future open to doubt. He has turned CDC gold into lead. Where once America was the leader both in theory and in practice in pubilc health and global health, it will now be part of the pack, and reluctantly at that.

What the United States has lost here cannot be recovered, not in one lifetime, possibly not in two. The USA had an organization everyone in the world could rely on for medical advice and medical research without hesitation. Now, it will be more than hesitation. America will be replaced as the leader in this field over the course of the next two decades.

The decline under Mr. Trump is accelerating.
