Cogito Ergo Non Serviam
AG Bondi Brings Circus to House Hearings
Attorney-General Pam Bondi performed her single trick of combative obnoxiousness during her testimony yesterday in front of the House Judiciary Committee. That she is partisan in a role that demands non-partisanship is a problem. That she views any Congressional supervision as an affront to decency is a problem. That she is incompetent is a problem. That she is unwilling and unable to explain her decisions is a problem. Yesterday, though, she took her act to new depths of awfulness. When she is out of office, she loses all protections from legal action. She will prove to be John Mitchell, Richard Nixon's AG, in heels. Mr. Mitchell went to jail though Mr. Nixon did not.
The main focus of the hearing was her handling of the Epstein Trump Files. Under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, her department was supposed to release all files related to Mr. Epstein's human trafficking activities with redactions to protect the victims names. The deadline was December 19, 2025. There are still at least 2 million documents that have not become public. As it turns out, her department got it backwards. The perpetrators names are not public, but the redactions were inadequate, revealing many victims names. If it is incompetence, she should resign. If the cause was deliberately making these errors, she should resign. She will not because she has no principles and no honor.
The New York Times observed:
"A particularly uncomfortable moment came when Representative Pramila Jayapal, a Washington Democrat, made an emotional appeal for Ms. Bondi to tell the women she was sorry for the slapdash, sluggish release of the Epstein documents, which inadvertently included the disclosure of victims' names that were supposed to be redacted."
Ms. Bondi appeared momentarily at a loss for words. Then something clicked, and she began to counterattack, her voice swelling to a near shout, accusing Ms. Jayapal of "theatrics" and of dragging the hearing "into the gutter."
"You're siding with the perpetrators, and you're ignoring the victims," said Jaime Raskin, a Maryland Democrat. "That will be your legacy, unless you act quickly to change course. You're running a massive Epstein cover-up right out of the Department of Justice."
Ms. Bondi has no answers for the proper questions posed to her yesterday. Like all incompetents who fear losing their jobs more than anything, she attacked the questioners rather than answer the questions. Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky has not accepted the bovine droppings the administration has offered. He demanded to know who screwed up the redactions. She replied that the Congressman has "Trump derangement syndrome," and called him "a failed politician." Even if those accusations were true, those are not answers to the question of who made the mistake.
In a decent Congress, the committee chairman would have none of this idiocy. A real chairman would force answers by threatening contempt, arresting the witness and/or slashing the departmental budget. This not a decent Congress. The GOP members are cowards and madmen, often both.
Ms. Bondi seems to have lied under oath. At least, Congressman Ted Lieu (D-CA) said so. Ms. Bondi said, "There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime. Everyone knows that."
The Guardian noted, "Lieu responded that he believed that answer amounted to a crime –--lying under oath -- since Trump's name appears in many instances in the files. In one message, for example, Epstein said Trump "knew about" the girls, but never got a massage. Michael Reiter, the ex-police chief in Palm Beach, also told the FBI that Trump told him "everyone has known he's been doing this" as it became clear Epstein was under investigation. Trump’s name also appears in uncorroborated tips.
Ms. Bondi is defending the president just the way AG John Mitchell defended President Nixon. The only two differences are Ms. Bondi wears high heels and her spouse will not blow the whistle on her because she is currently single. This journal will be stunned if she is not convicted of a crime before 2030.
The decline under the Trump administration continues to accelerate.
