Cogito Ergo Non Serviam
Heimatschutzminister Noem Fired
Kristti Noem is out as Secretary of Homeland Security [Heimatschutzminister in the original]. Her incompetence and corruption reached levels so bad that the Trump White House sacked her. In her place will be Senator Markwayne (all one word) Mullins (R-OK). This represents a move from a malignant leader of the department to a leader who has no track record in the relevant areas of expertise. Ms. Noem will now be the Special Envoy to the Shield of the Americas, or some such non-job that Mr. Trump is creating. She will work for Secretary of Defense Pete Kegsbreath and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It is a demotion and a firing at the same time.
Ms. Noem is a disaster as leader of DHS. She managed to take the immigration issue, where Mr. Trump came into office with 60% support, and undermined him to the point where only 39% back him on immigration now. Perhaps, it was ICE killing two US citizens in Minneapolis that set the stage for her removal, but the White House waited until she had a really awful performance before a congressional committee before sacking her. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) had a particularly difficult exchange with her in which her lavish and incompetent spending came to the fore. That was the pretext for her departure.
The one topic that may put her in jail some day is her spending. Commercials highlighting what a "great" job she was doing at DHS have been on cable TV for weeks if not months. Reuters reported:
The ads produced with the funds prominently featured Noem, including in a scene filmed on horseback at Mount Rushmore in the former South Dakota governor's home state.
Noem said on Tuesday that the contract was awarded through "a competitive process" and that no political appointees were involved. On Wednesday, she said the contract was "all done correctly, all done legally."
That is probably bovine excrement. One of the two companies to which she sent the money did not exist 9 days before the contract was awarded. Reuters stated, “One of the companies, Safe America Media, was incorporated in Delaware a week before winning the contractt. The company was awarded $143 million, federal records show.
"The second, the Louisiana-based firm People Who Think, was awarded $77 million."
Yahoo! News stated, "The money from Noem's agency was funneling directly into the pockets of her friends and allies at the Strategy Group, a group with myriad ties to the ex-South Dakota governor, including having once employed her alleged beau (Corey Lewandowski) and a CEO who is married to Noem's ex-chief DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin.
"Safe America Media, meanwhile, has no website, no experience, and quiet contracts. The only substantial evidence that the company actually exists at all is that it shares an address with a property owned by veteran Republican operative Michael McElwain.
Meanwhile, Senator Mullins is known for a couple of things media watchers will know. On November 14, 2023, he challenged Sean O'Brien, the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, to a physical fight during a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing. This dumbass-ery was magnified earlier this week when he was discussing Iran and called it Iraq three times. He also referred to Pete Hegseth as President Hegseth. He seems to be a muscle-bound boob,
The decline under the Trump administration continues to accelerate.
